July - Recipe Recap
Happy August & happy birth month to me! As I’m writing this I only have 18 days till 21—FINALLY (thank God).
July was a bit of a crazy month. It began with a vacation to the Outer Banks in North Carolina with my boyfriend’s family. Two weeks later I spent the weekend in Cape May, NJ, and Delaware visiting my boyfriend again. Then, the following weekend I was in Hershey, PA watching my sister’s last softball games ever (so sad). The Friday after that I left with my family and boyfriend on a 15 hour drive to Hilton Head, South Carolina for my family vacation. After travelling so much this month (probably more than ever before), I am desperately craving my routine—the routine that allows me to eat healthy (ish), stay active, go to work, socialize, keep up with this blog, etc. I can’t wait to reinstate it into my life for the next week and a half only because then it’s back to school for my senior year of college (lol).
Anyways, my travels and lack thereof a routine have really allowed me to eat like relative crap for the past few weeks. I absolutely love that I have been able to (almost) successfully mesh food freedom into my life this summer, however, as I learn to be okay with eating all foods guilt free, I am also learning about the foods that my body responds well to and the foods that it does not respond well too. When in the south, I ate a lot of fried food and a lot of high fat foods. Now I’m understanding that my stomach does not do well with digesting super fatty foods and my skin does not do well with a lot of fried foods (I’m lookin’ at you fried chicken). As much as it sucks to go through periods of stomach pain or awful skin, I feel like I am heading in the right direction in terms of intuitive eating. Learning to view food as fuel AND as a source of happiness, love, comfort, and community is truly an incredible process—one that is not going to take place overnight—and I am honestly enjoying the whole journey right now. As August begins (actually it’s almost half over by the time I’m writing this), I’m just feeling really positive about life and myself.
